Legends Scholarship Presentation

Devonshire, Bermuda – August 7th, 2020 – The Bermuda FootballAssociation held the Legends Scholarship Awards Presentation on Thursday,August 7, 2020 at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence. Five BFA Legends andfive student football players received scholarships during the presentation.

 

The Awards Presentations commenced withwelcome remarks from BFA President Mark Wade followed by Opening Remarks fromSenator Anthony Richardson JP, Junior Minister of Education with ScholarshipCommittee Chair Robert Horton giving an overview of the Committee’s selectiontasks.  

 

Aside from a 2-year spell at SouthamptonRangers, BFA Legend Arnold West played most of his senior career atDevonshire Rec. He often coached the youthwhile playing as a senior. He made several appearances for the Bermuda nationalteam most notably playing in the Olympic Qualifiers, Pan Am Games, and isanother one of the Legends to win a bronze medal at the CAC Games inColombia.  Therecipient of the Arnold West Scholarship is Julian Roser who plays forWestern Stars Sports Club. He will be attending the Bermuda College, graduatingin 2022.

 

BFA Legend Chevonne Furbert is oneof the best women footballers ever produced in Bermuda. She made multipleappearances for the Women’s National Football Team. During her career as aplayer she has won a total of 37 trophies. Ka’RiRichards is the recipient of theChevonne Furbert Scholarship. Ka’Ri is a member of the Bermuda RefereesAssociation. She will be studying a Business Administration at the St. FrancisXavier University, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

 

BFA Legend, the late Lance Brownplayed most of his senior football as a no-nonsense fullback and midfielder forthe Somerset Trojans back when they were called ‘Silver City’. He was known forbeing quick with his left foot and loving a bicycle kick, and for his winninggoal against Dandy Town to win the Friendship Trophy in 1990. He is also knownas the ‘$2500 man’ when he was the first $2500 transfer in 1985 to Somerset Eagles.The Lance Brown Scholarship recipient is ZaireSmith. Zaire plays for Somerset Cricket club and will be attending HoosacHigh School on a college prep course.

 

Devonshire Colts stalwart and BFA Legend EllsworthLambert was part of the first team ever to win the Martonmere Cup. AtDevonshire Colts, Lambert also won the League, the FA cup twice and theFriendship Trophy. He had several appearances for the Bermuda National Team includingwinning the bronze medal in Medellin Columbia in 1978 after scoring the winninggoal against the USA in 1979 at the Pan American Games. The recipient for the Ellsworth Lambert Scholarship is ChristenLugo-Elibox who plays for the St. David’s Cricket Club and will beattending The Calverton School on an International Baccalaureate course.

 

BFA Legend Danvers Seymour Sr.played his football career at Pembroke Hamilton Club from 1968 through to 1978.During his playing career he won the FA Cup, Friendship Trophy and the League.He was a member of the Bermuda National Team that represented Bermuda during thePan American Games, Olympic Qualifiers, and is another 2020 Legend to win thebronze medal at the CAC Games. The Danvers Seymour Sr.Scholarship recipient is Jai Bean. Jai plays for Pembroke Hamilton Cluband is considering his University offers at this time.

 

The Awards presentation concludedwith inspirational remarks from the Hon. Lovitta Foggo JP MP Minister ofCommunity Affairs and Sports who encouraged the Awards recipients to do theirlevel best and provide hope for other young football players to following intheir footsteps one day as well as thanking everyone who plays a role in theawardees lives to continue supporting them during their future endeavors.
