Bermuda SMNT World Cup Qualifiers

July 6, 2023

The Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) will play their opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers against Canada on Thursday, March 25th, 2021. The match will take place on neutral ground at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida, home to MLS side Orlando City and NWSL side Orlando Pride, and will kick off at 8:00pm E.T. The match was changed to this neutral location due to Canada’s current travelers' restrictions, which only allow essential workers to travel.

The match against Canada will be the first of four Qualifiers that are scheduled for March and June 2021. After Canada, the SMNT is scheduled to host Aruba on Tuesday, March 30th, at the National Sports Centre. The remaining Group B matches will see Bermuda Host Suriname on Friday, June 4th, and an away match against the Cayman Islands on June 8th.

President of the BFA, Mark Wade said, “The World Cup is the pinnacle of world football and we are happy to finally get the games underway. We hope to see a great performance from our Gombey Warriors in our opening match against Group B favorites Canada which should set the stage for success against the other teams in our group.”

The winner of Group B will be playing the winner of Group E in a pre-determined match-up. There will be a home and away fixture of this Second Round to determine who will progress to the Final Round, with the other Second Round winners. The Final Round will see the three Second Round winners join Honduras, United States, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Jamaica. This Round will feature a round-robin round of all 8 teams and will commence September 2021. The top three teams of this Final Round will qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
