Distinguished invited guest from the local and international football family gather on the occasion to acknowledge this milestone in the history of football in Bermuda.
Joining the BFA Executive Council Members and staff were Club Presidents and members of their Executive or Management Committee, BFA Honorary Life and Vice Presidents of the BFA, Sponsors and other local invitees. Also in attendance and making the occasion even that much more special was the fact that overseas delegates from the region including Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, Presidents and General Secretaries from the Bahamas Football Association, Jamaica Football Federation, Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association and the US Virgin Islands Soccer Association along with other Concacaf Staff Members and delegates from UEFA who were in Bermuda for the Concacaf Leadership Forum held on January 18thand 19th.
The evening started with a reception followed by dinner whereby guests were treated to the amazing sounds of the “The Big Chill Band” and the incredible voice from the talented Jesse Seymour. Following dinner, BFA President Mark Wade spoke of the history and legacy that has been created over the past 90 years and suggested to the audience to pay attention to the next 90 years for there is more history to be made. Concacaf President Victor Montagliani highlighted some of the milestones created by the BFA through its evolutionary years up to the more recent success of the Girls U15 National Team who were successful during the 2018 Concacaf Championships. President Montagliani also presented BFA President Wade with a silver tray on behalf of the Concacaf family to commemorate the occasion.
Further remarks were given by the Honorable Lovitta Foggo JP, MP, Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sport who highlighted the impact of football in the lives Bermudians. Mr. Jon Beard gave congratulatory remarks on behalf of the Honorary Vice Presidents of the BFA and BFA General Secretary ended with words of thanks to all those who paved the way for the BFA to remain a viable organization after 90 years.
BFA President Wade and Vice President Crenstant Williams took the opportunity to remind everyone that tonight we must not ever forget that everything we do is about football on the field of play and in a symbolic gesture presented Concacaf President Montagliani with the new National Football Team home and away jerseys with the number 90 to signify this important anniversary milestone.
The night ended with a dazzling display from the Gombey Evolution Troupe who danced to the delight of our visitors from the region as well as everyone else in the room. It was a special occasion shared by all who love and support football. The night reminded everyone that football has come a long way through its ups and downs but there remains a deep rooted desire to ensure that the number one and most important sport in Bermuda remains a pillar and beacon of hope and opportunity for the next 90 years and beyond.
