Senior National Coach

Hamilton, Bermuda – August 2nd, 2017– The Bermuda Football Association today announces the resignation of Senior Men’s National Coach, Mr. Andrew Bascome. Coach Bascome joined the National Coaching Staff in 2012. During his time in the National Program he was involved with our U15, U17, U20 and Senior Men’s teams. His influence on our National Teams has been invaluable as Bermuda consistently advanced beyond the first rounds of competition at all levels, including males and females.

Coach Bascome led our senior men through two Caribbean Cups and a World Cup campaign. The highlight of his contribution was with the success of the U15 boys who placed fourth in the inaugural CONCACAF U15 Boys Championships held in the Cayman Islands in 2013 as well as winning the gold medal of Natwest Island Games hosted here in Bermuda in the same year.

Coach Bascome leaves us to concentrate on his successful and growing ABC School.

We thank Coach Bascome for his years of service to the National Program and wish him all the best in all of his future endeavors.

Technical Development Director, Maurice Lowe commented; "Andrew is a friend, mentor to many, and servant of football. None of this will change, albeit from a different capacity than Senior Men’s National Team Coach. The Association, under the direction of the Player Development Committee, will immediately turn its attention to filling the post of National Coach as we strive towards improving upon our recent successes.  In the meantime, Our Technical Development Director, Maurice Lowe, will oversee and coordinate all activities involving the Senior Men's National Team.

Child Abuse Prevention

Hamilton, Bermuda – June 22nd, 2017

The Bermuda Football Association notes the recent conviction and subsequent sentencing in the courts. We hope that this brings closure for the three men and their families and signals the beginning of the healing process for them. The Bermuda Football Association applaud the bravery of these men and re-iterate our call for any others who are “suffering in silence” to seek out the helping organizations and the judicial bodies as we believe these cases are a matter for the courts of Bermuda as there is no statute of limitation on cases of child abuse.

The BFA will continue to introduce policies and programs like GLAD, BASBEC; Coach Education & Licensing and our Club Licensing program. The SCARS and First Aid requirements contained in these initiatives help to ensure our players can learn the game in a safe environment conducive to football development. Our clubs are well on the way to achieving the requirements for Club Licensing as the list of SCARS and First aid trained persons grows exponentially.

In a further step, we have asked for Child and Welfare Officers to be assigned to each organization that has programs for vulnerable persons. Our goal is to work with the Department of Social Services to have this in place before our youth season commences in September. We believe this step is a must for all youth organizations operating in Bermuda.

BFA Celebrates 50 years at Awards Weekend

DATE: Monday April 10th 2017

The 2016-17 football season is drawing to a close. We have seen the making of history with Robin Hood Football Club winning their first Premier Division Championship. We also saw X-Roads Football Club win the First Division and be promoted to the Premier Division for the first time in their history. Each a significant milestone in its own right.

Today BFA President Mark Wade announces Bermuda will also celebrate 50 Years as a member of CONCACAF! The BFA have planned a weekend of activities to celebrate this milestone! The President of CONCACAF, Victor Montagliani, will visit Bermuda to be a part of the celebration, On Friday he will officially open the Clyde Best Center of Excellence on behalf of FIFA president Gianni Infantino. He will then be a guest of honor at a private reception for invited guest and friends of football.

On Saturday morning, the BFA will hold the annual Football Symposium where plans for the Grassroots Leadership Academy of Development (GLAD) and Coach Licensing program will be unveiled. President Montagliani will also attend and provide some remarks about the direction of CONCACAF.

The weekend's events will conclude with the BFA Awards where the standout performers of the 2016-17 season will be honored. Individual awards, team acknowledgements, as well as the BFA Order of Merit awards will be presented. President Montagliani will add an international flavor to the night as the guest of honor.

BFA president Mark Wade said, “We are happy that President Montagliani has accepted the invitation to come to Bermuda. It is fitting that he will be with us as we celebrate 50 years of membership in CONCACAF. There are actually two 50s! This is also the fiftieth anniversary of our highest achievement in football at the senior level. 50 years ago Bermuda won the Silver medal at the Pan Am Games.”

National Academy Curriculum and Syllabus

DATE: Tuesday April 4th 2017

The technical department of the Bermuda Football Association have developed and written the Curriculum and Syllabus for the National Academy. This is a milestone for football development in Bermuda.

Football stake holders, players, coaches, administrators and the interested public are invited to attend either of two presentations. You will have the opportunity to hear first had the vision of the Technical Development Director, Maurice Lowe, and Assistant Director, Don Vickers.

Maurice Lowe commented. “The document is culmination of hours of work by the National Academy Coaches and I to ensure we have a methodology that will progress the game forward and ultimately see continued success on the international stage. But more importantly provide a template for those clubs who do not have a Curriculum and Syllabus for youth development.”

BFA President Wade added.  We are delighted to be able to “tick off” another initiative in the BFA strategic plan. These presentations are key to communicating the direction of our game. Maurice and his team will also be on hand to help every club develop their own Curriculum and Syllabus that can be implemented in their youth development programs.

The presentations will be held 6pm 10th and 11th of April at Devonshire Recreation Club and Port Royal Golf Club Board Room respectively.
