Ellsworth Christopher, elected as an Honorary V.P.

For the past 46 years, Ellsworth Christopher was involved in Administration or Executive membership within the islands two leading sports fraternities’ football and cricket. In 1962, Christopher joined the Executive Council of Devonshire Recreation Club, and from that very moment he had a vision to make improvements on and off the field for his beloved Club.

Accomplishments
During the 1965-66 season, he revived football and cricket at Devonshire Recreation Sports Club. He was instrumental having Pond Hill Stars and Devonshire Recreation Club merge, and from that very moment they were a force to be reckoned. In 1971, the late Randy Benjamin and Mister Christopher raised the bar again; this time they invited Pembroke Juniors to merge with their Club, by the following year they became what is known today Devonshire Cougars.
Prior to 1976, Devonshire Recreation Sports Club was in the midst of renovating their club. However from 1976-79, construction came to an abrupt stand still. But those who know Mister Christopher knew he would find a way to see the job to the end. He approached the Bank for a loan; however he had the backing of the Department of Youth & Sports, to satisfy the creditors. He was able to have all members donate $10.00 every week towards the Club from 1980-83. Eventually the Club completed the last phase in 1984. In the mid 1990’s he was able to raise more money to upgrade the facility yet again.
Once again he was a stakeholder in another historical movement, as the BFA and the BFU merged in the early 70’s. This was significant because the BFA were in financial difficulties at that time therefore the partnership was formed for the betterment of football.

And finally, during the early 1980’s, he was the Vice-President of the Somers Isle Cricket League (SICL) before joining forces with then the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control, were he served as Vice-President
