Bermuda U23 National football team went down to visiting Trinidad & Tobago (5-2) at the National Sports Centre, in the first of a three match series for T & T. Bermuda opened the scoring the first (2) minutes of play when Shane Hollis calmly scored from the penalty spot to give the local team a (1-nil) lead.
Twenty minutes later, Trinidad opened their bank account when Angelo Simmons made a defensive error, as he made a back pass to goalkeeper Tahj Bell but was intercepted by Jamal Juma Clarence, who scored just inside the (18) yard box. From there, it was all Trinidad, as they scored two more goals in a span of (15) minutes giving the visitors a (3-1) lead at the half.
In the (50) minute, Trinidad struck again, as they added another goal to go ahead by a three goals, when they made it (4-1). Bermuda fought back, six minutes later; Reggie Lambe made a pinpoint pass to Keishan Bean, who beat the goalkeeper to move the score to (4-2).
Bermuda squandered a number of opportunities in the first and second half, as well as Trinidad. However as the game went on, you could see Trinidad still had control of the match. In the (90) minutes the visitors struck again, to move the score to (5-2).
This marks the National Academy U23’s first international match aside from playing the USL summer games. Their next match will be Friday afternoon when they meet again at the NSC for a 3pm start.
