National U20 Team off to Cayman Islands to compete in World Cup Qualfier Youth Tournament
Thursday, July 17th, 2008
Bermuda’s (U20) World Cup Youth team will have their work cut for them when they play Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and Puerto Rico, in group (B) in the Cayman Islands during the World Cup Qualifying rounds later this month.
The squad departs Bermuda, Monday, July 21st, for the Cayman Islands; once they arrive they will meet Technical Director, Derek Broadley, who just left the U17 team who competed in the USA CUP tournament, in Blaine Minnesota.
The team has been under the direction of Head Coach, Kentoine Jennings, and Assistant Coach Jack Castle for the past (4) months. During that span of time they’ve bonded together knowing full well what this competition is all about. Much will depend on the likes of Marquel Waldron and Kristofer Frick, for their leadership. These two players were members of the just concluded National Senior Men’s World Cup team who played against Trinidad & Tobago.
The Youth team will play (3) matches in (5) days against some stiff opposition coming from the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. By no stretch of the imagination will the coaching staff and players take their opposition lightly. Their first match will be against the Cayman Islands, Wednesday, July 23rd, followed by Jamaica, Friday, July 25th and finally, Puerto Rico, July 27th.
