St. David's CC continue to unite
During the early (1900’s) St. David’s Cricket Club held their first club meetings on the former United States Base lands, because they had no club of their own too call home. Years later, they moved their meetings to St. David’s Primary School and soon after the members purchased their current club in (1964) where it is today.
For the past (44) years, the club has served their community well, and has catered to the island with some of the finest football and cricket matches played at their home ground “Lords.” Not only have they served their community well but have entertained the island with live music concerts.
Your recall, the Bermuda Government allocated a $1 million dollar grant for clubs to improve their facilities and infrastructures at various sporting and other community clubs throughout the Island. With that in mind, (St. David’s CC) were granted ($20.000.00) dollars to make the necessary improvements within their club.
Moving forward, the Club is currently upgrading their entire facility, however cost is a factor therefore they are working in stages. At the moment, they are working on the improvements of their (2) changing rooms that will have new tile along with new showers, toilets and electrical will be the main focus. This will be the start of many things to come for the St. David’s Islanders family club, who like so many other clubs are taking their overall infrastructure to a new level.
President of St. David’s Cricket Club, Aaron Lugo, is grateful for the grant from the Government for his club. He has only been in the hot seat for a mere (6) months, during his time he would like not only to raise the bar but have the entire (250) members remain focus on their goals and provide the community with a sound and effective safe club for everyone. He believes with the current (5) executive members and (250) strong members St. David’s will make things happen. He added, his club is looking to upgrade their fencing throughout the facility, camera installation, air-conditioning on the top level in the club house and re do the drive way so they can have a much improved drainage system.
