BFA – Appleby “Football the Game of Life
The Bermuda Football Association has worked extremely hard during the past 5 years, to improve the – Appleby Youth Leagues. The Youth committee has seen the number of teams total (100) player registration surpass (1,650) Coaching certification of (250) coaches and sponsorship funding increase annually to the amount of ($45000) over a six year period. However, the BFA is aware that all of the above stated accomplishments are mere statistics, if the total development of our largest assets, the players and their families, are not included in the total prognosis of the BFA Youth League’s.
Football is the most popular participant and spectator sport in Bermuda with the BFA being one of the major influences on youth culture on the island. The association recognizes that parents are the first role models for their children and to assist our parents in their child’s development, a Life SKILLS FORUM "FOOTBALL THE GAME OF LIFE" has been designed for all players registered in the (U18 division) including (U18 coaches) the (Women’s U17 National team) and BFA Club Presidents.
The BFA committee recognizes that it plays’ an integral role as a facilitator by providing its youth members with educational, social awareness information, leadership and social opportunities to all of its members, including, those who are at risk. "Football the Game of Life", Skills forum, will consist of Interactive Multimedia presentations, Motivational lectures, Shorts skits which will provide information and promote discussions on; Self -esteem, Education, Drug Awareness, Relations between Teenagers and the Bermuda Police Services, Anti social behavior among teens, Sex education,
Road safety and the BFA National team requirements.
The BFA is of the view that by facilitating the Life skills forum, we can continue to improve the relations between the, parents, players, coaches, affiliate clubs and the association.
We strongly believe that this groundbreaking initiative will lead to a greater appreciation for the role of Football and the part it plays in education, our communities, clubs, families and the players’ lives. The BFA acknowledges that every young player looks up to the best players in Bermuda and as their inspiration. Our communities recognize that leading former and current senior football players can serve as role models for our youth players and play a vital role in emphasizing the usage of football, to build a healthy and productive lifestyle.
The BFA is proud to announce we have received the full support from the Hon. Premier Dr. Ewart Brown who will be the main speaker at the inaugural Life Skills forum. We are also pleased to inform the public that our sole sponsor Appleby, friends at the Bermuda Sun and at Islandstats.com have once again partnered with us, to provide marketing and promotional sponsorship, to ensure that we can inform the youth players, affiliates throughout the island of the upcoming Life Skills forum. Various Government agencies have also offered their support and will provide informational pamphlets to be distributed to the youth players.
As mentioned earlier, the forum is named "Football the Game of Life" and with all major football events, the Beautiful Game has to be played. Upon completion of the Life Skills forum, the U18 players will participate in the inaugural "Football the Game of Life" Six a-side KO CUP tournament. All registered U18 Division players and their teams for the 2008/2009 BFA - Appleby Youth season of 2008/2009 will be eligible to participate. The Game of Life forum will take place on Saturday September 13, starting at 12 noon sharp at the Berkeley Institute.
LOGO COMPETITION
The BFA will launch a logo design competition on July 28th, named, "Football the Game of Life". The aim is to
make this an an inclusivie event and capture the attention of all teens in Bermuda. The winner of the lgo
competition will see their design be printed on BFA apparel with the initial branding to be featured on
t-shirts to be introduced at the Life Skills forum. The full details of the Logo competition will be
released on Monday July 28th, via the BFA’s web-site.
