The Sound of the Whistle
Do you have what it takes to be a referee? Are you interested in football? Are you finished playing but want to remain involved? Do you know the Laws of the Game? Can you blow the whistle? Why not become a referee?
The BFA Referee’s committee hosted a planning session on Sunday, 13 July 2008 at BAA Clubhouse. 15 Referees attended the session and were informed of the details for the upcoming season.
The session covered the following aspects of refereeing:
- The BFA will implement a new system of grading referees effective 1 January 2009. Details of the new grading system will be released soon.
- The BFA will conduct assessments of all referees during the period September to December so that the referees can be re-graded.
- A new fitness schedule was also announced (to be released soon). Referees have now committed to starting their annual pre-season fitness regime on the South Shore beaches in order to get ready for the new season. The first session will be conducted by Referee Ronue Cann on Sunday 20 July at 9:00 a.m.. Meet in the Car Park / Bus Turn around across from S’pton Rangers. All referees are welcome to join the session.
- A discussion took place on a possible new fee structure as per the new grading system to be implemented. The BFA Executive will have to consider and approve any new fee structure.
- Update on FIFA’s Referee Assistance Program. This is a universal designed program to have all Referees /AR’s trained alike, whether they be in Europe, Asia or CONCACF region. Each continent will have assigned FIFA personnel who will be responsible for the implementation and training of Instructors and Fitness persons at each National Level.

- 10 – 12 Aug 2008 - Youth & Beginners Course to be held at the National Sports Center ( Cricket Pavilion Building)
- 17 – 19 Aug 2008 - Seniors Course - Grade 3 & Up
- 31 Aug – 2 Sept 2008 - Assessors Course
- 7 Sept 2008 - First Fitness Test
