Premier Dr. Ewart F. Brown and Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Patrick Manning agree on friendly wager
Bermudiana and Bermuda Pride
On the Line Once Again
Bermuda’s Premier Dr. Ewart F. Brown has offered a friendly wager to Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Patrick Manning in advance of the international football match this weekend between the two countries.
The Premier asked the Prime Minister Manning to place the pride of his country’s national flower on the line. A similar challenge was brokered with the Leader of Government Business in the Cayman Islands earlier this year.
The Premier said: “The outcome was great for us the last time so I’m certainly prepared to give it another try. As well as our Bermuda team is playing right now I hope to spread the Bermudiana far and wide.”
Bermuda’s national flower is the Bermudiana; Trinidad’s national flower is the Wild Poinsettia. The offer requires the loser to plant the other’s national flower on the grounds of his official office.
“The Prime Minister says he’s not a betting man,” the Premier said, “but I told him if his team advances I’ll plant his flower at the Cabinet Office. If our team wins I will be sending him some Bermudiana.
“It’s fair to say he is almost as excited as I am about Sunday’s game. I am so proud of our team.”
Premier Brown and Prime Minister Manning talked while at the New York Conference on the Caribbean.
