National Tearm arrive home this morning
Bermuda’s National Senior Men’s Football team returned home early this morning after their victory over Trinidad and Tobago, on Sunday, in the first of the two leg series World Cup Qualifier. Bermuda Gombey Warriors defeated T & T Soca Warriors 2-1, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, in Port of Spain.

Thanks to Jon Nusum, he found the back of the net twice in the first half and let’s not forget, it was a total team effort winning the first leg away from home. Many sports fans around the world and in Bermuda, did not give the Gombey Warriors a chance of winning, not even a draw.

Premier the Hon. Ewart Brown, Minister of Environment and Sport, Elvin James, Senator Mark Bean, BFA General Secretary, David Sabir, BFA Executive, Mark Trott, and BFA Administrative Assistant, Vance Brown, were on hand to greet the team once the plane touched down this morning. The squad was expected to arrive last evening however due to bad weather conditions in New York, they had to stay overnight and return this morning.

Head Coach Kenny Thompson, and his coaching staff are pleased with the team’s performance, at the same time they truly understand they have another (90) minutes of football to play this coming Sunday, at the National Sports Centre. Meanwhile, Thompson has given his team the rest of the day off so they can get some rest after travelling all day on Monday, departing Trinidad, onto Miami, and then New York, only to find out their final destination from New York to Bermuda had to be cancelled due to weather conditions.

The Bermuda National Senior Men’s team will resume training Wednesday morning as they prepare for the final hurdle of the second leg in the World Cup Qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago.

The match will be played this Sunday, June 22nd 2008 at the National Sports Centre, kick off at 7:30pm…Gates will open at 6pm.
