National Football Team receive a farewell send off at City Hall
The Bermuda Football Association’s National Senior Men’s team was treated by our local fans in the City of Hamilton on Wednesday as they made their way through Reid Street Hamilton, greeting spectators and being applauded by sports fans, tourist and all walks of life. The (25) minute walk began on Court Street, turned onto Reid Street and then onto Queen Street, finishing on the steps of City Hall.

Wednesday afternoon Players, Coaches and the Executive Committee of the BFA gathered on the lawns of the Cabinet Grounds to have pictures taken with Acting Premier, Hon. Paula Cox, JP, MP which included our National Gombeys. This was done in great gesture in conjunction with the Bermuda Government and the Bermuda Football Association prior to the National Team departing for Trinidad and Tobago.

Once they arrived at City Hall, Acting Premier, Hon. Paula Cox, led the dignitaries with her opening remarks wishing the team all the success and hoping they will return with a victory. Mayor of Hamilton, Sutherland Madeiors, likewise spoke on wishing the team all good luck and that upon their return leg to Bermuda, that sports fans will be supporting you 100%. Shadow Minister, of Youth, Sports and Recreation, Jon Brunson not only echoed those same sentiments but encouraged the team to hold their heads high and play with pride, passion for their Country. Derek Broadley, Technical Director, Kenny Thompson, National Team Head Coach and Omar Shakir, team Captain, stepped up to the podium and addressed the crowd on their expectations against Trinidad and Tobago. By no means will they be taking them lightly or under estimating themselves against a Country who played in the 2006 World Cup, in Germany.

The (18) men squad departed Bermuda Thursday morning for Trinidad & Tobago; however they won’t arrive until Thursday evening. Once they arrive, Head Coach Kenny Thompson, has already outlined his plans for Friday and Saturday, come Sunday, it will be time to focus on the game at hand.
