NSCAA State Diploma Course

For the first time ever, local coaches will have the opportunity to participate in the National Soccer Coaching Association of America (NSCAA) coaching course conducted by Bermuda Football Association Technical Director, Derek Broadley.

On Saturday, May 10th, the (NSCAA) State Diploma Course will be held at the Bermuda College gymnasium from 10am-4pm.

In 2005, Broadley moved from the UK to the United States, since than he has been a certified coach for the past (3) years working with this program. During that time, he’s been able to see firsthand the improvements in the coaching fraternity and the increase in players  productivity at an early age. This is a great opportunity for our local coaches to come on board and invest in this new course.

The day will be as follows:

  •        Candidates should arrive by 9:45am to fill out forms.
·        Course will start at 10am with a theory session.
·        Lunch will be from 12:30-1pm
Practical session will run from 1pm-2:30pm
·        Complete theory session from 2:30-4pm
·        Social gathering will start from 4pm-5:30pm

The NSCAA State Diploma Course is the first introductory course of their coaching education system.

State Diploma: The State Diploma is a five-hour course directed toward the person newly involved in coaching soccer. It is designed to help coaches working with players in the 5- to 10-year age range. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the physiological and psychological differences of coaching children.

The course is designed to emphasize that the game itself essentially is the teacher and the focus of the coach at this level clearly is as facilitator.

The curriculum focuses on the organization of a practice session, using small-sided games to enhance knowledge and fun, basic understanding of the Laws of the Game and information about the care and prevention of injuries. There is no testing in the State Diploma. All candidates must be at least 14 years of age at the time of application.  If a candidate is under 18 years of age, an adult must accompany him or her for the duration of the course.

The course is open to all coaches on the Island who work with children, and should they take the opportunity, it’s free.

With only a few weeks on the island, Broadley is spreading his wings making sure he covers all areas of football. Come and meet the new Technical Director, for he has so much to offer to our coaches.
